Drive-In/Drive-Through Pallet Racking System

Unlike most other pallet racking systems, the drive-in/drive-through pallet racking systems are not divided into aisles. Instead, the forklifts get to drive directly into the lane to access the stock. The drive-in/drive-through systems make full use of storage capacity and minimise the use of floor space.
The basic difference between the drive-in and drive-through pallet racking systems is that the drive-in has a single point of entry and exit, while the drive-through has two points of entry at either end of the lane. Typically, a drive-in system works on a FILO—First-In Last-Out—storage method. And the drive-through systems work well on a FIFO—First In First OUT storage method.

  • Do not overload your pallet racking system. Adhere to the manufacturer’s specifications when it comes to the maximum load limit. Overloading can result in your racking system collapsing or could lead to other complications when it comes to unloading stock.
  • Always conduct a thorough inspection of the racking system after natural disasters such as storms, earthquakes, cyclones and so on.
  • Be sure to conduct rack audits by a qualified inspector to ensure that your racking system is functioning at its best without any potential pitfalls.
  • Always use the right equipment for loading, unloading and transporting the stock.
  • Ensure that there is ample lighting in the aisles. Dark, dingy aisles can make it difficult for workers to navigate the aisles with ease.
  • Damaged components of a pallet rack should be replaced with new or used-but-in-good-condition parts. Never use duplicate or reworked parts.
  • The load must be positioned in the centre of a pallet to avoid uneven distribution of weight that could lead to damage to the beams and pallets after a while.
